Methods of profiting from 'If Bet' Promotions

There are 3 main methods to profiting from theses promotions.

  1. Back/Lay on Betfair
  2. Dutching the promotion with other offers
  3. Advantage Playing the promotion

1. Back/Lay on Betfair

This can be a good method if there are no other promotions available in the same market

Step 1  - Find the closest match on Betfair that will allow you the lowest qualifying cost for the promotion.

Step 2 - Calculate your back and lay amounts using the matched betting calculator

Step 3 - Place your back bet at the bookmaker

Step 4 - Place your lay bet at Betfair

Benefits of this method

  • You are risking very little as the most you will lose (barring exceptional circumstances) is your qualifying cost

Downside of this method

  • If many other promotions are available in the same market it may be more cost effective to dutch all the offers
  • You may need to take in to account which bet has more chance of hitting the promotion. Straight up going for the cheapest qualification method does not always produce the highest expected value.

2. Dutching the promotion with other offers

Use the dutching calculators available on Bonus Money to place many bets to qualify. This can be a good method if there are other promotions available in the same market allowing you to gain more EV for a lower qualifying cost.

Step 1  - Visit a dutching calculator available on Bonus Money by clicking a sporting event on the offer calendar that has more than 1 promotion attached to it.

Step 2 - Adjust any bookies that you do not have promotions with by clicking on the bookie logo

Step 3 - Place your back bets at the bookmaker

Step 4 - Place your back bet at Betfair to even up the dutch as shown in the calendar

Benefits of this method

  • You are qualifying for more than one potential bonus at a time
  • Your qualifying costs are likely to be lower than if you backed and layed each of the bets individually

Downside of this method

  • You may need to take in to account which bet has more chance of hitting the promotion. Straight up going for the cheapest qualification method does not always produce the highest expected value. Therefore you may wish to place certain bets on one team even if that makes the qualifying costs higher

3. Advantage Playing the promotion

Only for people who can tolerate higher risk

Step 1  - Find the closest match on Betfair that will allow you the lowest qualifying cost for the promotion.

Step 2 - Place your back bet at the bookmaker

Benefits of this method

  • You generate a little more EV by not paying a commission from laying your bets

Downside of this method

  • You are risking a lot more money than a traditional matched bet as you can potentially lose all your stake
  • There may be a temptation not to compare the odds with Betfair. It is comparing odds with Betfair that allows you to calculate the amount of EV gained from an offer. If you don't still compare odds you may negate any EV savings you gain from Advantage playing the offer.
